Understanding back pain.
Personalised physiotherapy for acute and chronic back pain. We assess the cause and guide you towards better mobility and a greater capacity for physical activity.
Back pain is one of the most common health complaints and can have a significant impact on everyday life. It often arises from muscle tension, inappropriate loading or limited mobility, but can also result from excessive strain, degenerative changes or spinal disc problems. At our physiotherapy practice in Zurich, we identify the cause of your symptoms and develop treatment that fits you and your life.
Common causes: Muscle tension and inappropriate loading, limited mobility, excessive strain and insufficient stability, as well as spinal disc problems and degenerative changes.

Frequently asked questions.
What helps with back pain?
Movement and an individually tailored level of physical activity are often helpful for back pain. Depending on the assessment findings, targeted exercises for strength, mobility and coordination, alongside physiotherapy, may help. It is essential to identify possible contributing factors and avoid prolonged rest where possible.
What does physiotherapy for back pain involve?
We begin by discussing your symptoms and assessing your mobility, strength and capacity for physical activity. Together, we use these findings to set treatment goals. Depending on the assessment, we combine active exercises and training with complementary manual techniques, adapting your programme as you progress.
Do I need a medical referral?
You can receive physiotherapy without a medical referral if you pay for the treatment yourself. A medical referral is required for treatment to be billed to compulsory basic health insurance. Different conditions may apply to accident or supplementary insurance; we are happy to discuss the appropriate billing arrangements with you.
When should I have my back pain assessed by a doctor?
Back pain should be assessed by a doctor, particularly if symptoms are severe or worsening, if you have a fever, significant loss of strength or numbness, or following an accident. Problems with bladder or bowel function, or numbness around the genitals or buttocks, require urgent medical assessment.
